Ok, so let’s face it, sometimes convenience foods are handy. Those little oatmeal packets….awesome.
They give your younger kiddos some sense of accomplishment in cooking and are great when you’re running out the door and don’t have the time (or patience) to make something from scratch.
Do you have a stockpile of oatmeal? I sure do, and when you see what I’m going to show you, you’ll probably groan because of how incredibly easy this is. I did.
Do it Yourself Instant Oatmeal Packets
- Tub of Quick Oats
- Ziploc Bags
- Salt (if desired)
- Sugar (or sweetener – again if desired)
Measure out 1/2 cup of Quick Oats, dash of salt (if desired) and about 1 – 1/2 tsp of white or brown sugar (or whatever sweetener you choose – if desired).
Place in your baggie and seal it up! That’s it! A Quaker Oats container will yield you about 24 instant oatmeal packs.
To cook them, simply microwave in a safe mug or dish with 1 cup water for about 90 seconds.
If you have old fashioned oats, you’ll need to cook for about 2 minutes. What’s great about this is if you stocked up on a good sale, the total cost for each about $0.10 per little baggie!
Plus you can add “stuff” to it to make it more exciting.
Dried fruit, raisins, chocolate chips, cinnamon, powdered creamer… I also like it because I know exactly what’s going into my oatmeal.
No weirdo ingredients!
