Question: I have a family of two, so should I even bother with coupons or stockpiling?

I can’t tell you how many times I am asked this question. When I first started to use coupons I would hear this and somewhat agree with it. And it wasn’t until I actually taught my last coupon class that it dawned on me. Of course you should!

When you are a family of two are you really only buying for yourselves?

What do I mean by this? Aside from it being frugal and wise with your money. We all at sometime or another tend to have company over, family fuctions, pot-lucks, work parties and I am sure the list can go on. If you are like me and you are having dinner guest over you want to be able to pull out all the stops and really go out of your way to cook them a nice dinner. Well that could easily cost $50. But if you have a stockpile you can feed almost 40 people for $114! How do I know this? I did it.

Last January I catered a lunch for 40 women. They had a choice of Turkey Lettuce Wraps, Chicken Thai Noodle Salad or Chicken Caesar Salad. In that price includes all the boxes for the lunches and silverware as well. It was a nice lunch. This is a cost of $2.85 per lunch.

I realize that you might not be feeding 40 people, but that is just an example how little it can cost to feed a group that size.

So I will conclude with this. Yes…using coupons is completely and totally great even if you only have two people in your home. Because not only will you have enough food, shampoo and lotion for yourselves. You will have plenty to share with others as well. And when I am invited to someones house for dinner I will never have to come empty handed :)

So now your turn. Are you a family of two? What do you think? How have you been able to use your stockpile?

We are a family of 2 and I have a very nice stockpile. I find I don’t have to shop every week because our meals are planned from what I have in the cupboards. We don’t have to buy shampoo, lotion, soap, etc.. as often and when we do we don’t buy at full retail prices. It’s nice to know I can make cookies, cakes, potluck dishes from what I have on hand. It has made my life so much easier. I donate free items to food banks and also share with my extended family. The savings I get from couponing makes it all worth it. We have gone on Disney cruises and vacations with our savings. Thank you coupon connections for helping us save our $$!

I couldnt agree more with KimD. We are a family of 3, but I have been couponing and stockpiling since we were a family of 2. I have been able to donate so much to the food bank/shelters/friends/family because I get so many great deals I just cant help but share!

We’re only a family of two, and I just started growing a stockpile last month. It’s worth it. I hit proof of that last week: 99 cents is all I will pay for my wife’s deodorant from now on. She’s got 5 spares in our small stockpile. That makes me certain I will always have a coupon and sale somewhere. Since it’s usually $2.50 or $3, three weeks worth of stockpiling has already paid off.
